‘Almost, Maine’ Playwright to Be Featured in Benefit Reading at The Mainstage Theater

New York, New York (6/15/2014) - On Monday, June 23rd, Believe Theatrical will present playwright John Cariani’s newest piece, LOVE/SICK, in the play’s first professional reading in New York City. Produced by Believe Theatrical, the reading will take place at The Mainstage Theater, 416 West 42nd, and will benefit the Hemophilia Association of New York (HANY).

The incredible star-studded cast of 20 includes Anthony Rapp (If/Then, RENT), Sam Underwood (“The Following,” “Dexter,” “Homeland”), Rachel Brosnahan (“House of Cards”), Elizabeth Davis (Once), Craig muMs Grant (“Oz”), Alex Wyse (Lysistrata Jones, “Bored to Death”), Valorie Curry (“The Following”), Jerzy Gwiazdowski, (Across the Universe, “Girls”), Pat Buckley (“Death of a President”), Jenny Kirlin (Rainbow Rabbit Reliant, “The Sopranos”) Sara Thigpen (Boomerang Theatre Company), Seth Kirschner (“30 Rock”), Jennifer Mudge (Rocky on Broadway), Zachary Booth (The Winslow Boy, “Damages”), Brian Williams (“Elsewhere”), Carolyn Charpie (New York Picture Company), Justin Hagan (Shortbus, “The Good Wife”), and company members Katy Wright-Mead (“Boardwalk Empire”), Kate White (“Fall To Rise”), and severe hemophiliac Patrick James Lynch (The Irish Curse, “Stop The Bleeding!”). Jim Fagan (American Songbook, ass’t on Lonny Price’s Sweeney Todd) to direct.

Love/Sick is a collection of ten twisted, touching and hilarious short plays that explore all the euphoria and sorrow that love brings to people’s lives. Each mini play features a different, yet equally compelling couple who find themselves at one of the many stages of love. Cariani describes the play best as “an unromantic comedy for the romantic in everyone.”

Believe Theatrical, founded by Ryan Gielen, Patrick Morris, Kate White, Katy Wright-Mead, and Patrick James Lynch hosts quarterly readings of new works. This reading is their annual fundraiser to benefit the Hemophilia Association of New York (HANY). 50% of all proceeds will go to benefiting HANY and the remaining 50% will go toward funding the 2015 Season for Believe Theatrical.

Tickets are $35 and 50% Tax Deductible.
The Mainstage Theater, 416 West 42nd Street, (between 9th & 10th avenues) Pre-Show Open Bar Reception Begins at 6:00pm / Post-Reception and Raffle to Follow.
